Protection of Passive Services in Radio Spectrum Passive services are radio services that do not transmit, receiving and measuring natural radio emissions from terrestrial and cosmic sources. Such services are critical for purposes ranging from weather forecasting to understanding the origins of the universe. Increasingly, passive services have to share spectrum with commercial and government wireless systems, and protection of these critical services from interference in a shared environment can be a challenge. This session will present an introduction to passive services, and introduce the PASS project with the Wireless Innovation Forum exploring architectures to support this type of sharing. |
